 Sweden to celebrate

Italy manager Giampiero Ventura says his team needs a "great performance" in the second half of their match against Sweden, to avoid missing a first World Cup since 1958.

The Swedes won the first leg 1- 0 at the Friends Arena, the only goal coming when Jakob Johansson brought his 20 yards home following a deflection of Daniele de Rossi

They were the best team of the first half time and the Azzurri They were always disappointing

Matteo Darmian went closest to the EQ but hit the post.

Italy – who will be without suspension Marco Verratti – will have to win Monday's return match to San Siro to reach the World Cup in Russia.

Ventura said: "This result is punitive.I hope that in Milan the officials will give us what they have granted them here.

" In a match as important as this one, we wanted a more balanced approach, now all that matters is to get the result.

"We have to go back to Milan, San Siro has to give us a hand too, but it's up to us to deliver a great performance for our fans."

Sweden physical deserved his victory

The Swedes – who finished over the Netherlands sealed their place of dam – looked for the match from the first whistle.

Italy – led by Giampiero Ventura – did not impress in their qualifying group. The four-time world champion had the misfortune of being in the same pool as Spain, but a 3-0 defeat in Madrid and a 1-1 draw against Macedonia were not to be expected.

Ventura failed to find room in his 3-5-2 formation for Lorenzo Insigne, winger Napoli fit, and his two front – Andrea Belotti and Ciro Immobile – have not clicked at all.

Belotti – who played for 69 years -old manager in Turin – missed the first-half chance of the Azzurri in the first half. He headed out to sea from the Darmian Cross. He was shocked to have received only five keys before being replaced in the 65th minute.

The influential midfielder Verratti, the intriguing Paris St-Germain, is needlessly seeking a breakaway on Berg in his own half. – A yellow card which means that he is banned for the second stage.

The hosts approached when Darmian hit the 25-meter post with a fantastic shot from the Verratti pass but they failed to pressurize.

Italy brought Insigne to Verratti in the last 15 minutes, but at this point, the rot seemed to be settled and the substitute shot a wide shot in overtime.

The result means legendary Italy Goalkeeper Buffon, who won his 174th selection, could play his last international competition match on Monday. The star of Juventus had planned to retire after the World Cup – a tournament that would be his sixth record, if he can reach it.

Bonucci conceded that they had to improve for the return match: "We have to be faster at the return match, we really have to fight, they played a very physical game but we can not excuse us. "
